Spring is Here !(?)

Despite having just had one of New York City’s biggest snow storms in years, Spring has already started to set in Gap Baby! It also just happens to be one of my favorite collections of the season. Inspired by blooming warm weather and fun activities at the country club, this collection has bright colorful florals mixed with modern sporty patterns.

My favorite is these adorable tennis girls on this collared tennis dress. Hand-painted in watercolor, these ladies show all the fierceness owned by all little girls.

Marché Rue Dix in Crown Heights

I hope you all had a a wonderful Valentine’s Day full of warmth and love because the temperature outside today is one cold slap in the face. But of course, that didn’t stop us from getting brunch this morning. Cent’Anni is our usual brunch spot in Brooklyn, with their $5 mimosas, eggs ragu, and homemade pasta, we’re usually too satisfied to go anywhere else. But since I had just happened to be there the night before, it seemed appropriate to venture out– but not too far! it’s too cold! It amazes me that as small as Crown Heights is, there seems to always be something new to do. New restaurants and boutiques waiting around every corner just waiting to be discovered. This morning we ventured over to Cafe Rue Dix, French-Senegalese cafe, bar, and restaurant. We didn’t order much, but the coffee was rather good. Their coffee bar and homemade pastries and breads looked especially impressive. Although we didn’t order pastries, we ordered the hummus which came with a homemade warm pita bread and if the rest of their homemade breads are anything like their pita bread, then I’ll take the lot. Seriously, this hummus. I’m going to be dreaming about this hummus. Basil and chopped kalamata olives, I am sold. But what really inspired me to post today is the little treat that waited for us after brunch. When the waitress gave us our check, she included a little postcard advertising Cafe Rue Dix’s vintage and new clothing store located directly next to the restaurant. Yes, being outside was torture, but we managed to make it ten feet to Marché Rue Dix, and I’m glad we did. This amazing little store was so inspiring, with their modern displays, custom iron fixtures, and vintage items mixed with new items made by local designers. Just look at these pictures.

Times are a changin’

It’s been a long year. The freelance biz has continued to be one wild, unpredictable ride. Fortunately, I’ve had some pretty great surprises this year. I got to work under the great, Susan Lazar, founder of Egg by Susan Lazar, which if you haven’t heard of it, is a great high quality clothing company for babies and kids (they’ve just launched their Spring 2015 line featuring lots of my print and graphic work, but that’s for another post!) I’ve continued doing graphic work for Coolibar, which if you have little ones and you’re going on vacation soon, I highly recommend checking out their rashguard and swim collection for kids. And I started freelancing for Gap Baby and Gap Kids! All in all, very exciting.

With Kaleb away performing on the cruise, I’ve had a lot of time to focus on work, but luckily, him being on the cruise also meant I got to enjoy a nice two week vacation in the Caribbean! See the photo above featuring one of San Juan’s beautiful beaches at sunset.

With all the changes happening in my life, I thought I might as well make some changes to my blog. In the past, I was pretty dead set on keeping this blog strictly portfolio based. However, now that I’m four years out of college, that idea seems silly to me. My life is more than just intarsia sweaters and jersey layettes. It is also knitting projects, experimenting with recipes, home restoration projects, hair makeovers, and more! In conclusion, expect more from this little blog, things are about to get interesting.
